I laughed every single day, from morning to midnight, and had a fantastic time but now that I'm home its quiet and routine. What I once found comfort in is a little dulled by the sand and sunny memories of my friends and our week together on the shore.
It's a trip I'll never forget.
It was our last day with my Mom so we took her to one of her favorite spots for a nice long walk along the inner-coastal and out to the pass to watch the boats go by. She was all smiles.
We walked from the afternoon into the evening and even stayed to watch the sunset. Mom sat down and took a moment to play with the camera while we went hunting for sharks teeth along the shore, she managed to snap this shot which was a nice surprise when I had the film developed, thanks mom.
From the moment I stepped foot in Florida I could only think about
putting my toes in the sand, I really missed that feeling so much. Just
as planned our first day was spent lounging on the beach. it was a
prefect day; a cool ocean breeze, full sun and some of the most
picturesque skies I've seen in a long while. I brought along my
fish-eye lomo camera, a christmas gift from Jon, and went hog wild.
I’d heard stories of a lighthouse on an island close by so I
jumped in the convertible with the top down and my hair up in a bun and headed
for Gasparilla Island.
The Boca Grande lighthouse is on the tip of the island where the current is
strong but the waters are crystal clear. I got there early before the crowds
and had the beach to myself where I ran up and down the shoreline taking
pictures of everything and anything I could. Check out my Flickr Set!
While in Florida Jon and I managed to get away and find some time to ourselves for an hour. We went to the one place that we've been missing, our beach on Casey Key. On the way we stopped at Publix and picked up an Italian Sub (our tradition) we then hopped across the street to the Venice Jetties, sat on the rocks and ate happily.
With a full tummy and the sun shining we walked up and down our beach with our toes in the sand. I call it our beach because we have so many memories there, our first date and a few years later our marriage ceremony. Its a special place and it was nice to see it again with Jon by my side. Although he spent much of his time bent over starring at the sand on the hunt for sharks teeth (the beach is notorious for beautiful sharks teeth washing up.) He found one and happily put it in his pocket. I love that beach and I'm so glad we were able to sneak away from the hustle and bustle of the upcoming funeral to have some of our own time at our special place.
