I'm getting ready for our little Thanksgiving trip, this year we are heading over to Jon's fathers for the holiday. Instead of sleeping on the floor we booked a hotel this time and I think I'm really going to enjoy it a lot more. I hate imposing on people, especially when they don't have the room and in middle of the fuss of the holidays. Its a little treat to have a hotel.
I spent yesterday digging through bins at Garden Ridge. Now that its October and truly feels like fall outside, I wanted to celebrate the seasonal change and set up some decorations. I was in search of the perfect wreath for the front door and it was a frustrating gaudy process. I don't understand why retail designers make such ugly products. My brilliant artist of a husband broke the mold and grabbed a tweed wreath and started wrapping it with some realistic fall leaves on a line. We gathered purple berries and added a splash of tiny cream colored flowers. It looks fantastic and only cost a total of eight dollars! Its a world better than the tacky wreaths going for five times the price in the store. I also bought a few extra lines of these realistic leaves and a raffia pumpkin that was just classic. I must say I'm pretty happy with my purchase and my husbands festive ideas.
I went to the library today and browsed through a fairly large selection of books. I've been dying for a large city library to borrow from and it felt comforting to hold a new plastic library card in my hand. I picked up a collection of short stories by
H.G. Wells. I came home just in time as the cold rain started coming down and nuzzled on the couch to read my stories. Jon at my side with a book on astronomy (he's such a science nerd) and Luna warming my feet with her new winter coat. Comfort.
