The honest truth; I love walking into the gym at 6am on a Monday
morning, even with a 4 degree windchill. There is something about
swiping my ID card that makes me feel proud, like I'm actively making a
difference in my life. I trotted in there with my new gym bag and cute
running shorts, hopped on elliptical and ran for two miles. As I glow from the rush of a good workout I look down to see a "green energy" sticker on my machine. Apparently, in an effort to eliminate some of UK's carbon footprint, the gym has installed new technology into the elliptical machines to put power back into the building's generators. So not only am I doing something good for myself, I'm doing something good for the environment. It's a double perk and a nice surprise.
I'm just amazed at how quickly time has flown... today is my one year diet-versary! My journey started after having spent a week in Florida with my family for the Christmas holiday. I was so excited to get home, unload the memory card and review the hundreds of pictures I had taken during my vacation. But I found myself in tears as I photoshopped the fat from my body. The camera was showing the real me, the obese me, and I was so embarrassed that I was manipulating the truth. It was the breaking point for me, things had to change.
A month later I took my first steps towards healthy living. Of course they were baby steps but they were in the right direction and week after week I found it got easier, I was even enjoying myself. I used MyFoodDiary to track my progress, I realized I didn't need to eat such large portions, I fell in love with fresh vegetables, I taught myself how to run and I even purchased a gym membership. I now felt fresh, healthy and energized, to top it all off I needed a whole new wardrobe because during that time frame I had gone from a size 14 to a size 10! I had lost 26 pounds and 19.5 inches!
Some days I wake in the morning, step on the scale and half expect my weight to be back to 170, like this whole thing was a dream. But I look down and see 147 pounds and my heart skips a beat because it's real. With each pound lost I get closer to my goal, I still have another 12 pounds left but I know that I'll reach it soon enough and once there I've promised myself to maintain my healthy weight for the rest of my life because this isn't just a diet, its a lifestyle change. So here's to a lifetime of a healthier me and a happy diet-versary.
It arrived today, I've read the manual, played around with it a bit and now feel confident enough to give it a whirl.
So far, I'm motivated :) and its working.
What's your cure for the common cold?
One part Monolaurin (natural anti-viral, immune booster)
two parts Nutricillin (natural antibiotic)
This my friends is my miracle cure, it works!
I saw a new dentist today and I'm so glad I picked her out of the hundreds of other dentists in the area. She was nice, not the I'm a professional I have to be nice, but she was genuinely nice. Her office just opened last month and is full of all sorts of high tech toys, the ohhhs and ahhhhs kept coming but as the flat screen television panned over my head and she picked away at my teeth I realized... damn, this is going to be expensive. The service was phenomenal. I had a cleaning and a few ex rays taken an it was $160 which isn't really that pricey.. but when she'd given me my report of everything that should be fixed or needed attention, it was a total of $800. This being that I had cavities that needed to be filled and they do not use silver filling, which pretty much doubles the cost. I scheduled an appointment for next week to get the immediate problem fixed, at a cost of $350 and will have to decide later If and when I'd like the smaller issues to be fixed.
All costs aside, it was a great experience and I've rarely able to say that about going to the dentist. So my teeth are clean and shiny, I'm smiling and blissfully ignoring the hole in my pocket. :)
