Finally after weeks of nothing but rain and sludging around in the mud pit back yard, I managed to squeeze in a few hours of quality gardening time today. I'm pleased to say that I've finished seeding my vegetable garden, the irrigation has all been set up, veggies labeled with popsicle sticks and the squirrel cage is ready to defend my peppers and tomatoes from hungry little squirrely paws. It's out of my hands now, so its time for mother nature to do her part. I can't wait to see little sprouts popping up. It's all so very exciting.
Spring is here! The trees are starting to fill with green, my lawn is as plush as ever and the veggie garden project is hopping right along. Thanks to the help of my most amazing husband, Jon, I'm on my way to having fresh home grown vegetables this summer. I really am one lucky girl to have such a handy guy around and this garden has been a dream of mine for years so I'm thrilled!
We built two (3x3 foot) raised beds and filled them with a mix of last years compost and organic soil. As you can see I have plenty of space for large garden but since this is my first, I thought it best to start out small and lean on a gardening method to help me learn the ins and outs. I chose to use Square Foot Gardening (thanks to Jamie for introducing it to me) and it has given me all the direction I could possibly need to plan out my garden. I've got a notebook full of layout ideas and (thanks to Retta for a seed swap) I have great collection of seeds to chose from.
Just a few more touches on these beds and I can get those seeds in the ground!
